Daily bicycle use is today the most trusted symptom of a city’s health: a metropolitan area that shows balance between different means of transport is efficient and productive, sustainable, healthy: the most beautiful.
Italy is still a very backward country on sustainable mobility and public space renewal policies, but global change is now being triggered, and cycling traffic is growing visibly even in a city like Rome.
On this line of thought, the Spin Cycling Festival, a three days dedicated to cycling culture, to help change and offer comparisons and information, is scheduled for the 22nd, 23rd and 24th September in the Guido Reni District (Flaminio district, next door at the MAXXI Museum). Born in London and considered an international success event, Spin (one of the ways to say pedal) is a festival where citizens can try bicycles of the best producers in the appropriate test runs; Take part in city bikes tours; Listen to the protagonists of activism in the talk area; Watch the programming of video and film on bicycle culture, without losing good food and spaces for sociality.
Three days of celebration also designed to celebrate the 200 year old (1817-2017) of the bicycle, the “perfect vehicle”: in this context will be exposed first of all the prototype of a bicycle-priced PulsaR Italian speed record, designed by the Polytechnic team of Politecnico di Torino University and it will be possible to explore in detail the products of renowned international brands such as Brompton, Moustache Bikes, Tokyobike, Giant, Askoll, Specialized, Brooks, Closca and many more. Wide space will be given to electric bicycles, cycling-tourism and start-up and young designer innovations.
The rich program of the “Spin talk” area includes, among other things, the presence of Sio (Simone Albrigi), exponent of the most famous YouTuber and Italian cartoonists, returning from a round trip to the Arctic Circle (see “uncommon: Arctic” on FB); Gianluca Santilli, president of Granfondo Campagnolo Roma, Alberto Fiorillo, Metropolitan Legambiente Head of Environment, spokesman for GRAB project; Anna Becchi, vice president Salvaiciclisti Roma and referent of the BikeToSchool Roma project; Lamberto Mancini, General Manager of the Italian Touring Club; The writer and musician Andrea Satta and many other stakeholders who will debate the issues of bike paths, road safety, technological innovation, bike economy and cyclotourism. The meetings will be covered by a review of videos, music clips, travel documentaries and films including the projection of Bikes Vs. Cars, by F. Gertten.
In the space “art”, there will be some theatrical shows and workshops for children on road education and a collective exhibition of the best national and international illustrators who dedicated their production to the bicycle world, including Riccardo Guasco, Emilio Rubione, Toni Demuro and Roberta Mistretta.
Finally, there will be a Club Cycle with a library, a cycle shop, bars, video projections, DJ sets and musical interventions dedicated to all bikers, including the Têtes de Bois concert on Sunday 24 at the closing of the event.

Spin Cycling Festival Roma is organized by the IMF Foundation with the support of Roma Capitale – Council for Cultural Growth, the patronage of – International Cycling Union and FCI – Italian Cycling Federation, and the partnership of Touring Club Italiano, FIAB – Italian Federation of Bicycle Friends, Granfondo Campagnolo Roma, CycloPride Italia APS.
